A clear path

Sealy+on+path.jpg

This is a beautifully maintained town path. Our dog, Sealy and her good friend have found a particularly interesting smell that requires attention. This picture was taken on the Packard path that links Elena to Taaffe.

I must admit I frequently take our paths for granted. They're always there, they're always well maintained. Over the years new paths have entered my walking route. Recently (or at least in the last couple of years) the distinctive pathway signs have gone up. I particularly enjoy the names -- Stegner, Artemas-Ginzton, Packard, Stultz, Fran and others -- reminding me of our local history.

The time and effort devoted to developing the pathways is truly impressive. I'd like to thank all the town volunteers who've spent countless hours researching and proposing new paths. I also want to thank the town staff for their proactive maintenance and their quick response whenever I report a downed tree, big pothole or slippery surface. I've spent time walking paths in other jurisdictions and can say with authority that the LAH maintenance staff is second to none when it comes to clearing paths!

Our paths are justifiably a great source of pride but they've also been quite a source of contention over the years. How can we improve the process of adding new paths? I don't have an answer but I do have some ideas. And I look forward to spending more time thinking about this as well as other town issues while Sealy and I are out walking... on the wonderful town paths.

Thanks!
- Lisa
